2nd Area Convention - 29 September 2007

The 2nd Royal School of Church Music St Albans Area Convention was held on 29 September 2007 at Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School, Elstree. The following photographs give a flavour of the day – a mixture of talks and interactive workshops on a diverse range of topics aimed at all those leading or participating in worship and making music with "spirit and understanding". Can you spot your own smiling face among them?

Comment: Thoroughly enjoyed the day. Particularly useful and incredible fun were the warm up type seesions - Richard Morrison and the lady who had us all bent double breathing (can't remember her name, but she is a professional teacher and singer,.) She was fantastic! The West Gallery music was an eye opener and Going for Gold imformative and encouraging. Thank you for organising it. I think I filled in a form to say I'd like a chance to sing at the special evensong next year (Jan/Feb?) but if I didn't please let me know so I can do so.

Comment: Thank you for a really enjoyable day! I was lucky to be in a small group with Deborah and found that class educational. Advanced singing was interesting with Simon where I picked up useful tips re leading singers. The opportunity to play a couple of the organs available was fun and the class with Roger was useful. The final service conducted by Christopher along with the 'Faure' ended a day of great value. I hope to get to another.

Comment: Thoroughly enjoyable day, again! I had trouble selecting just four workshops from the list. I learned a lot, especially from Deborah Miles-Johnson and Marie Price. I was a little disappointed that the advanced singing session was just a sing through of repertoire. I think I expected it to be tips on how to sing more advanced music well. The RSCM bookstore was a great idea. I managed to pick up a light blue book for a new probationer, without having to worry about the post strike. I was also able to browse more expensive items that with my very limited budget I can't buy on speck. I did make one purchase that I probably wouldn't have done by post. Great to meet Matthew in person too! I hope that there will be future conventions. I will be there!
